February 2008 - Worthing and Brighton franchisee Tony Sharman and founder Roger Runswick appear on BBC Southern Counties radio

February 2008 - Saga Magazine 'pinup' Pete Hudson appears on BBC Radio Stoke. Pete, originally a franchisee in Buckinghamshire, moved to a location near Cheadle and is now serving 50plus Handyman clients in Staffordshire

January 2008 - The new Wiring Regulations (BS7671) comes into effect in the middle of 2008. Information is available on the technical support section of the 50plus web site

October 2007 - 50plus announces the opening of the Manchester area run by Associate Ken Snellson

September 2007 - 50plus announces the provision of gas services in a number of areas

September 2007 - 50plus announces the opening of the Kent (Bromley and Bexley) area. We welcome Ken Roberts as the area manager

June 2007 - Saga Magazine runs an article titled 'off with the suit, on with the overalls' featuring 50plus Handyman and photographs of four 50plus staff

April 2007 - 50plus moves to new offices in order to house the growing operation under one roof. See Contact Us for details.

March 2007 - 50plus introduces the HomeCare & Repair service. The service is designed to provide peace of mind for the homeowner and includes a HomeCheck report detailing the condition of a property and the option to upgrade to a monthly Handyman visit.

February 2007 - 50plus announces the opening of the Wiltshire area. We welcome Brian Appleby as the area manager. Brian is replaced in the Thames Valley area by Robert Watson whom we welcome on board.

News 2006

November 2006 - 50plus announces the opening of the West Suffolk area. We welcome Doug Watson as the franchisee

October 2006 - Over 65's will rise by 50% in 25 years. England faces a population boom but the population will be ageing according to the Office for National Statistics. By 2029 the population will rise by more than 6 million driven by immigration but over 12 million people will be aged over 65, compared to 8 million today.

September 2006 - expansion in the last months has seen new 50plus Handyman operational areas come on line in Oxfordshire (North and South), southern Northants, North Herts, and an expansion of our office staff

August 2006 - 50plus welcomes a range of new corporate clients including manufacturing industry, a restaurant chain, an international relocation company and a museum.

June 2006 - 50plus features on the 22nd June BBC Southern Counties Radio with Tony Sharman and Roger Runswick talking about the handyman service and the mature workforce.

May 2006 - Baby boomers want to continue working past normal retirement age, according to a survey. Fifty-eight per cent of people in their 50s and 60s who were still working said they wanted to carry on after 65 and 10% did not want to retire at all. But 64% also felt it was impossible to get a new job once they were within 10 years of state pension age. The survey of 1,770 people was carried out for Heyday, a new group aimed at people born between 1946 and 1965. The organisation, which has been set up by Age Concern, is similar to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

May 06 - The Daily Telegraph publishes an article including the results of a Saga survey saying how the public prefer 50 plus plumbers, electricians, builders and decorators and how they found them more reliable. To read the article (pdf file) click here

Feb 06 - 50plus announces the opening of the Loughborough area. We welcome Richard Steane as the franchisee

Jan 06 - Henry Talbot, 1943-2006. Henry Talbot worked for 50plus Handyman in the West London area. Sadly he died in early January of cancer, just a few months after being diagnosed. We will miss his wit and cheerful humour.

Dec 05 - Window Care Systems have provided details of a repair system for wooden windows which is particularly useful for period properties. Check the downloads section

Nov 05 - 50plus announces the opening of the Surrey M3/A3 corridor area. We welcome Alec Bushill as the franchisee

Oct 05 - We welcome Brian Protheroe as supervisor in the Brighton and South Coast area.

Aug 05 - 50plus announces the opening of three new areas in September - Aylesbury, Brighton/South Coast and the Thames Valley extending from Slough through to Reading.

Aug 05 - Roger Runswick and Keith Beck fill a half hour slot on BBC Radio Norfolk. Back in the office the telephones light up. The tape of the session, kindly provided by the BBC is blank!

March 05 - Thanks to Keith Beck 50plus makes the early evening television news in East Anglia - Keith featured in a 50plus employment piece on BBC Look East

March 05 - a new voice on the 50plus phones. David Tullett is working with us to take customer bookings and administer the handyman business. David is a former electrical services manager and senior projects engineer, building services for Taylor Woodrow and is an IIE member.

February 05 - Uxbridge will open as a managed area in Mid March
