Why did you create 50plus?
50plus was created to be an 'enabling' organisation for the mature workforce. It enables those who are mature to remain in or find a route back to the workplace and to counter the ageism that still exists for the older job seeker.
It is noticeable that 50plus as a company does not age discriminate and although all of our workforce is mature the age range is currently from 40 to the mid 60's.
Could you introduce your company 50plus Handyman to our readers?
50plus Handyman offers a reliable maintenance service to householders and businesses using the mature workforce. It was established around 3 years ago to serve a need in the market. Put simply it is difficult to find reliable personnel to undertake maintenance tasks at a reasonable rate. 50plus Handyman enables those with practical skills to meet a market demand whilst providing a route to work for the mature workforce.
50plus Handymen (we would like some women please!) come from a wide range of backgrounds. Many have been in engineering or 'white collar' jobs such as banking, insurance, management and consultancy. They have in common their practical skills and their ability to resolve problems and communicate with customers.
Could you describe some services you offer?
50plus Handyman provides a plumbing, electrical, internal and external maintenance service covering tasks such as replacing taps washers, repairing toilets, refitting bathrooms, fitting lighting and additional power sockets, hanging doors and curtain rails, decorating, repairing fencing and gutters and more. 50plus Handyman provides timed appointments by named personnel.
All enquiries are answered by our central booking service with a nation-wide 'local call rate' number. Work requests are logged into our purpose built computer database where progress is tracked. Our personnel can also provide an estimate of likely cost and answer technical queries.A description of the service is available at http://www.the50plus.co.uk.
You are developing franchises, what kind of persons are you looking for?
We have two types of franchise:
(i) self operated for rural areas where the franchisee is the Handyman. in this case he or she need to be practically skilled, capable of estimating the cost the work to be carried out and of running a small business
(ii) managed franchises where the franchisee is running a business which employs handymen to do the actual work. In this case the franchisee needs to be more business focussed with sales and marketing skills.
