About 50plus Handyman

50plus Handyman provides a professional and guaranteed property maintenance service for householders and businesses. The service is provided by a mature workforce for people of all ages, offering experience and reliability to all our customers.

The 50plus Handyman service includes:

			Plumbing; from tap washers to new showers & bathrooms
			Electrical; from minor repairs to new sockets and lights including works requiring Part P notification
			Gas; boilers and appliance installation and servicing (not all areas)
			Fixing curtain rails, hanging doors, assembling furniture
			Internal and external painting and decorating
			General maintenance inside and outside your premises
			and more including fitting plasma screens, laying flooring.....
			plus our unique HomeCare & Repair service
			gardening and landscaping (not all areas).

50plus Handyman has service packages tailored for most customers including:

For domestic customers, landlords and letting agents:

• A Pay As You Go service with a simple half hourly rate for the smaller jobs
• The HomeCare & Repair subscription service with an annual property inspection, written report and discounted labour charges. If your property needs regular maintenance it will pay you to buy this service. Click here for more details
• For landlords and letting agents with a requirement for frequent maintenance works a tailored package which offers volume discounts, electrical safety certification and priority booking
• Fixed prices for jobs we can reasonably estimate which are over 8 man hours in duration.

For commercial customers:

• A Pay As You Go service with a simple half hourly rate for the smaller jobs
• Fixed prices for jobs we can reasonably estimate which are over 8 man hours in duration
• A tailored package with substantially lower rates dependent on time of response and the time of day the work is undertaken
• For larger customers client specific packages with negotiable rates
• Installation services for customers supplying goods or equipment that needs installing in customer premises.

Charges

Pay As You Go charges for smaller jobs

Pay As You Go is designed for smaller jobs. Charges vary by area, reflecting local operating costs. Our prices in South East England effective 1st February 2008 are:

• Tiny Tasks: one off fee of £11 per visit including VAT
• Decorating and Gardening: £14 per half hour including VAT, minimum fee one hour
• Basic Works: first half hour £28, then £21 per half hour including VAT
• Plumbing & Electrical Plus: first half hour £34, then £25 per half hour including VAT.

There is no call out fee and no mileage charge.

Outside the South East lower charges apply, typically 20% lower and as low as £22 per hour in some locations.

Discounts are available for pensioners and FSB members. Day rates are available for jobs of 8 hours or more in duration.

Prices apply 0800 to 1800 Monday to Friday (some personnel work outside these hours). Normally a premium of 50% applies to out of hours working.

If you need to postpone an appointment please let us know at least 24 hours in advance.

If you do need to cancel a job please give us at least 24 hours notice. Otherwise a cancellation fee may be applicable.

In a number of areas you can pay by credit/debit card.

Day rates are designed for larger jobs over 8 hours or more. As with Pay As You Go charges vary by area, reflecting local operating costs. Please enquire for details.

Who provides the service

The service is provided locally by direct employees or appointed 50plus Handyman franchisees. Many are trained engineers.

Estimates

Estimates are normally provided free of charge. Smaller jobs of up to a day in duration will normally be estimated over the telephone. Larger jobs may require a visit to enable an estimate to be provided.

50plus Handyman provides 'fixed price' estimates based on prices listed in 'The Property Makeover Price Guide, published by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. The price is fixed with the exception of: (i) any changes you ask for during the course of the works and (ii) any untoward items we find that could not reasonably be ascertained before the work began. If we cannot provided a fixed price we will provide a 'best guess' guide and work on a time and material basis, which means that you pay for our time on an hourly basis (for each person employed on the project) and for any material we use during the course of the works.

A. 50plus Handyman work is typically guaranteed for a period of three months.

A. The central organisation carries £5m public liability insurance. 50plus Handyman franchises carry a minimum of £1m public liability insurance.

Q. How do I know if a caller is from 50plus Handyman?

A. You will have a confirmed appointment and know the name of the 50plus Handyman. If you any doubts please telephone the 50plus Handyman office and verify the callers name.
