Chesham Older People Action Group (COPAG)

Article written by Barbara Richardson – Chairperson COPAG

COPAG stands for Chesham Over50s Positive Action Group.  We have been running for nearly 15 years.  We started as a pop-in group at the Elgiva and progressed to the Town Hall where we have held our meetings for many years.  We started out as an Action Group but are now a social group, with some members who actually started with us.  We try and find interesting speakers with relevant information for the older person, plus music, trips out for the day, Christmas entertainment, and light-hearted banter to give us all a laugh.  The first Chairperson was Joy Pearce.  She held that post for about 5 years but became too ill to carry on.  I took over from her, and am still Chairperson 10 years on!!  The members know that if they have a problem they can come to me or one of the committee, and we will do all we can to sort them out.  If its too difficult for us we can then go to various people on the Councils who have always supported us, and see if they can help, which, quite often they can.

We like to think that we are the voice of the older people.  We are a very friendly group who welcome new members.  The membership is £10 per year, but you don’t pay membership until your second week with us.
