Workaid

Workaid is a charity, headquartered in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. They collect unwanted tools and equipment from across the country, refurbish and distribute them to people in need, to help them learn a skill and earn a living.
Workaid are committed to tackling poverty in a practical way by helping disadvantaged people in the UK and East Afric, to help themselves through skills training.
Every year Workaid helps over 9,000 people break the cycle of poverty and rebuild their lives. They assist projects working with orphans, street children, unemployed teenagers, disabled people, people living with HIV/AIDS, widows and refugees. By working with carefully monitored projects, Workaid are able to make a difference to individuals and families and help communities to build a brighter future together.
A few years ago Workaid moved into a large warehouse/workshop which was formerly a boot and shoe factory in Chesham. Along with the workshop, they have a shop where they sell haberdashery supplies, a selection of tools and lawnmowers which are either unsuitable for shopping to the projects they support or on which a greater profit can be made to help cover shipping costs.
How you you help Workaid? Although Workaid is fortunate to have a strong contingent of over 200 volunteers in the Chesham workshop, as well as Local Organisers around the country, who collect tools in their area, Workaid always need more volunteers to join the friendly teams in the workshop, office or shop.
Workaid believe everyone has something to give, and volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to work together and learn new skills. Giving your time can open up a whole new world, while benefiting someone else. The time you give is valued to Workaid, so as a thank you for volunteering they offer Time Credits, which can be sent on a wide range of activities from swimming to theatre visits or even adult learning courses.
