It's already been given the affectionate soubriquet 'the granny app' but it's a little more serious than that. 50plus Assurance Care is a clever system that discreetly checks whether an elderly relative is up and about, warm and comfortable, providing family or carers with peace of mind.

There's no intrusion, no video, no sound and no prying. The monitor is a small unobtrusive box that contains movement, temperature and humidity sensors and is linked to web so that you (and if required other relatives or carers) can see, on your mobile that all is well. And if movement or environmental data drops below expected learnt levels you get a notification. What could be simpler?

As an added benefit the app will also register visitor activity in the monitored area(s).

What is needed in an elderly persons home?
WiFi is helpful but not essential, we offer an option that includes Wireless Internet in case WiFi isn't available. We can also advise on getting broadband and hence WiFi installed. In many cases a single intelligent sensor (that monitors movement, temperature and humidity) is all that's needed but 50plus will advise on the best set up. In some circumstances a second sensor can be useful.

How to order


To order either call us during office hours on 0845 22 50 495 or one of our local numbers and we will take the initial upfront payment by credit or debit card (you get an instant email receipt) or complete an online order here. If you are self installing we will then ship the sensor and installation instructions to you. If 50plus is installing we'll book an installation date. You will also need to complete a direct debit instruction which we will arrange. If you would like a fast installation we can take the initial monthly payment by card over the phone.


How it works


The 50plus Assurance Care system was and continues to be developed by our partner Vixen Electronics who produce the sensors and the VEMs applications. The Internet section is hosted by the highly resilient and secure Amazon Web Services. Vixen originally developed the system to assist with caring for an elderly person and 50plus have also deployed it to look after elderly persons whilst allowing them to remain at home and as independent as possible.

The sensors, shown circled (except when this is viewed on small screens), collect movement, temperature and humidity information. These talk to the servers in the Internet 'cloud' which in turn collate the information for the individual and relay is to designated mobile phones for the individual customer. Each sensor uses less electricity than a traditional light bulb.


The mobile phone / tablet application displays the data in an easily readable format, allowing family or carers to see that all is well at the touch of a button. The same application allows the user to monitor movement and environmental data and also allows the user to inform the system that the elderly person has gone out or is away.

Minimum software level requirements on user devices are Apple: iPhone - iOS 13.1; iPad - iPadOS 13.1; Android devices: 9.0. If you have any questions about this do ask.
